JEFF BATT aka “BATTY”
Founding Member
“Batty” first donned the jumpsuit & boots in 2019, just in time for the 35th Anniversary of the Ghostbusters movie. Born in 1984, it was a staple of his childhood. Young Batty watched the Real Ghostbusters cartoon every Saturday morning as a yuppie larva and the first birthday present he can remember asking for and receiving was a Kenner toy ghost trap when he was five. Batty’s volunteering started at age 8 when he first helped his Grandmom run a thrift store and food pantry in a church basement in New York. Today he carries on her legacy in spreading joy and helping others with the Diamond State Ghostbusters. You can count on him to be the “first one in, last one out” of a spooky situation. Jeff used to be an 1860s Civil War reenactor and has a lot of interest in historic buildings, cemeteries and haunted battlefields. His Grandmothers’ house was haunted and he loves to tell stories about paranormal experiences there. Batty founded Diamond State several years ago in secret and was the only member for awhile. Now look how the team has grown!
GRAHAM
Founding Member
Delaware has always been a part of Graham’s life. He joined his first Ghostbusters group in 2015 after discovering that there were still so many fans after all these years. Graham is motivated to be a positive influence in the lives of others. He especially enjoys doing charity work and marching in parades as a Ghostbuster. Graham is one of the three founding members and is like the “Dad” of our group.
DEBORAH
Founding Member
Deborah is a Delaware native. One of our most experienced members, she first donned the uniform in 2015. Deb loves interacting with people of all ages, but especially children: serving and encouraging them, and bringing a smile to their faces. Deborah is a great mom and connects especially well with the kids, usually volunteering for the hands-on activities like our Make-Your-Own-Slime lab.
JOHN
Founding Member
John “Doc” Hollyday has been a Ghostbuster fan from the moment he first saw the movie. As an army brat he could be found running around the post in Germany using his parents’ appliances for his first proton pack. For the past decade, John has been building his own proton pack and props and gadgets. He built himself a Steampunk proton pack, we don’t understand how it works but it does. He also cosplays with America’s Finest, the G.I. Joes along with his friend Sean. Bustin’ makes him feel good!
BRANDON
For whatever reasons, call it fate. Call it luck. Call it karma. We believe that everything happens for a reason. Brandon was our first recruit, he was meant to meet the Diamond State Ghostbusters at Dover Comic Con in June of 2022. He has been happily bustin ‘ghosts and bringing joy to all who appreciate the Ghostbusters.
KERRI
Founding Member
Kerri has been a Ghostbusters fan since as long as she can remember and her birthday is very close to Halloween, so she loves to dress up and there has always been something supernatural about her. Winston’s subway scene in Ghostbusters 2 is a core memory for Kerri. Being part of the Ghostbusters community has been an amazing experience and has brought Kerri her found family, which she has happily adopted as the “Mom” of the team. She doesn’t suit up all the time but is happy to keep everything organized and answer the phones. “Ghostbustas whaddya want?”
STEVE MELTON
“So where you from? Originally.” Steve Melton was from Mississippi but fate, luck and karma led him to Delaware to join Diamond State. Steve has years of experience in the 501st Legion of Star Wars cosplayers and the Delaware Finest GI Joes and we’re glad to have him on the team. Steve joined us in 2023 at Blue Hen Comic Con, our first bust at an old abandoned Sears building. His connections have gotten us in to investigate some interesting places. Steve is ready to believe you!
NELLIE
Nellie is originally from Louisiana, but followed the spectral trail to California and eventually to the East Coast where she settled in Delaware and found us. Nellie and Steve Melton both love the Gothic aesthetic and everyday is Halloween at the Melton house! Her favorite thing about wearing the suit will always be seeing the mini humans smile. If she had to choose the form of her destruction, it would likely be a giant bat or a pizza slice.
JORDAN
Jordan is a freelance ‘Ghostbuster for Hire’ who floats around in various groups where he is needed. He is an honorary member of several other chapters: Philadelphia, Delaware County, New Jersey and Hawaii. There is nowhere Jordan won’t go and just about nothing he won’t do. We never know where he’ll show up next. He makes sure we never get too serious. Wherever Jordan goes, laughter and good vibes will follow. He keeps telling us ghost dinosaurs are real, but we have yet to see one.
STEVE WITZKE
Steve Witzke (the “Other Steve”) has spent a few years as a freelance ‘Buster for hire without a team and finally found a home with Diamond State.
“My name is Steve, you could say I started being a Ghostbuster from as early as I can remember but I didn’t have a suit and gear until 2020. Picking a favorite Ghostbusters movie is like picking a favorite child, you just cant do it. That being said Ghostbusters 2 would be the movie I have watched the most. I love being a Ghostbuster because it brings smiles to faces and it helped me to overcome my fears, as well as for my kids. Oh there’s something scary in your closet…not for a Ghostbuster.” Steve got our patch tattooed on his arm, so I guess he’s one of us for life now.
KEN “SCOOBY”
Ken has been crossover cosplaying since 2005. You may find him as Scooby-Doo, Deadpool, Pandamic the Panda, Pandahausen or a Sith lord, all wearing a jumpsuit and proton pack! Scooby is his most recognizable persona. The howling life-size Slimer at our booth belongs to him. Ken always loved Ghostbusters since it originally came out in the theater, but he first put Scooby in a uniform for the 50th anniversary of the Scooby Doo cartoon in 2019. Looking forward to many Ghost hunting adventures with the Diamond State Ghostbusters, mainly to bring your heroes to life. Who you gonna call ??
MARK & LAURA, ARWEN AND SAM
“The family that busts together” Mark and Laura are from Wilmington. They joined us in Newark on Halloween in 2023. Like many of us, they were solo cosplayers looking for a cause to be a part of, which they found in Diamond State. The whole family shares a love of Ghostbusters and they attend many of our events together as their own little team. Mark used to be a volunteer for the Wilmington & Western historic railroad. The family loves sci-fi and everything to do with the 1980s, and Ghostbusters is at the top of the list.
SEAN
Sean Mahoney has been costuming for 20+ years and is also a member of America’s Finest, the GI JOEs! He always wanted a Ghostbuster jumpsuit and proton pack since he was a kid. He remembered watching the movie on VHS in ’84 and was hooked. Sean picked a great time to cross over, with two new movies and a Netflix series coming soon. At Diamond State Ghostbusters we are all about making your dreams come true! Sean works at The Haunted Experience, a local Halloween superstore where he can help you transform into any character you want.
BEN
Ben is a Delaware native through and through. He remembers having the first Ghostbusters on VHS and watching it over and over again as a child. As a kid, he watched it for the cool proton packs and goofy humor, but with every passing year he found new tidbits and comedic gems that were missed by his younger self. He is a kid at heart and finds love in all things geeky, no matter the genre. He and Cat officially joined DSGB together in December 2025 and are excited to take part in all the fun events, charitable ventures, and general shenanigans the group has to offer.
CAT
Cat is a proud geek girl with an undying love of 80s rock and movies, and—most importantly – Ghostbusters. Married to Ben, their relationship was forged in the sacred fires of 80s sci-fi movies and geek culture, with Star Wars proudly holding the title of first movie marathon watched together. In July 2025, a special date night to see Ghostbusters at the Everett Theater in their hometown of Middletown turned into a life-altering event when they met the DSGB crew and even got some pictures! After Cat fangirled hard and blurted out to Nellie, “WHO are you and HOW do you become a Ghostbuster?!,” Cat knew there was no turning back. On the drive home, she popped the ultimate question to Ben: “Will you become a Ghostbuster with me?” He wisely answered the call: Yes.
GERALD
Gerald first met Diamond State the day he rolled up outside a Halloween store in a restored 1966 ambulance with the gurney and all the original equipment still inside. Gerald is a classic car collector who restores and maintains a small fleet of Cadillac hearses and ambulances. The one that serves as Diamond State’s Ectomobile is a white 1963 Miller Meteor. He also collects funeral home and mortician memorabilia. His favorite movie (other than Ghostbusters of course) is Killer Klowns From Outer Space. Gerald is happy to lead us in parades and avidly attends Monster Mania and other horror conventions.
